“I will continue to plant until my last breath.”

In 1979 Jadav Payeng started planting single handily a forrest. Now, his creation is bigger than New York’s Central Park. In his best effort, the man managed to transform a wasteland into an tropical paradise oasis for man and beast alike.

His 550 hectare forest is now home to 115 rhinos, deers, elephants and tigers.

Payeng’s dream is to restore his home island of Majuli and neighboring Jorhat with the stunning forests that used to covered them a long time ago.

The natural beauty of his island was destroyed by human influence and agricultural development, but Payeng is not giving up and continues his work to restore the ecosystem.

He teaches us all a very important lesson: small acts on a daily basis can make a huge difference in time!

“I tell them, cutting my trees will get you nothing. Cut me before you cut my trees!”
